Citizenship Rules for EU/EFTA
Following Brexit, these citizenship rules have changed now that the UK has left the EU.
However, under current laws, EU and/or EFTA citizens who live in the UK are automatically entitled to permanent residence as long as they have been living in the UK as a ‘qualified person’ for more than five years.
Once you have permanent residence and have lived in the UK for a further 12 months, you can apply for British citizenship.
